Coming into this game, the Blues had dominated with three shut-out wins, this one makes four as the Caps fall 4-0 to the Blues.

The St. Louis Blues (44-22-9) are fighting hard for home ice positioning in the west, while the Washington Capitals (53-15-5) are one point away from the President’s trophy. The Blues just wanted this one more. The Blues played as the Caps did in December, four small breakdowns and four opportunities taken advantage of.

The Blues’ first goal came as Dimitri Orlov gave up a soft turnover in the offensive zone, allowing the Blues’ Kyle Brodziak a quick snipe on an unprepared Philipp Grubauer.

The second goal came on a slightly controversial call. After  Colton  Parakyo carried the puck solo through the neutral zone and took a point blank shot on goalie Grubraer. The goal was challenged by Trotz, and replays appeared to show a clear offsides. The referees disagreed, or at least could not find “video evidence,” however, and upheld the goal.

For the Blues’ third act, a mere 1:40 later, Vladimir Tarasenko started a quick tic-tac-toe sequence that confused p and gave the Blues a a 3-goal deficit that was too sad for the Caps to overcome.

The final dagger came with with 2:15 left in the third when Patrick Berglund put the fourth and final goal in to seal this game up.

The Caps sit one point away from clinching the President’s trophy and face John Tortella and the bottom two Blue Jackets at home on Monday.

Next Game: Monday March 28th at 7pm vs. the Columbus Blue Jackets
